The Eddie Betts Foundation Youth Football Academy is inspired by Eddie’s own journey into the AFL, one that was marked by talent, determination, and the ability to overcome significant barriers. The Academy brings together Aboriginal young people in a culturally safe, elite sporting environment that also fosters peer-to-peer learning and positive role modelling.
By removing obstacles that too often stand in the way of success, the Academy creates a clear pathway forward, supporting the young people to thrive through a strengths-based approach and a diverse curriculum delivered by experts. In addition to elite football development, the program includes education in nutrition and healthy living, LGBTQI+ inclusivity, consent and gender awareness, and financial literacy—equipping the young people with the tools to succeed on and off the field.
